The Glorious MUDsingers and infamous ukulele group, Chooks on a Hot Tin Roof, were both there as part of the Festival’s 10th anniversary program.
This saw 143 individual musical events across ten days, celebrating the human voice.
The Milton Ulladulla contingent shared the bill with major Australian and international names, including Claire Bowditch, Ben Lee, gospel supremo, Eric Dozier and US pop choir The Exchange.
The MUDsingers had the honour of being one of only six choirs featured as part of the FoV International Choral Program.
As well as performing a series of ‘pop-up’ street performances around the city centre, the choir featured in two showcase concerts, closing the finale bill in the magnificent 1866 Hobart Town Hall.
This concert, shared with Young Voices of Melbourne and Perth’s young adult choir, Voyces, saw all three choirs packed on stage at the invitation of the MUDsingers’ why-sit-when-you-can-stand-and-sing leader, Tina Broad, for the last song of the set, the traditional spiritual, Kum ba yah.
True to reputation the Muddies elicited variations on this reaction from audience members: “You’re having so much fun! Where’s Milton? I want to move there and join your choir!”
Chooks on a Hot Tin Roof declared a career highlight when they found themselves programmed with the Spooky Men’s Chorale and Deborah Conway and Willy Zieger.
Now the countdown is on for the return of the Muddies to the local stage, with Sunday, September 28 confirmed for the singers' annual Gospel Brunch - 10am in the Anglican Church Hall, Milton, as part of Escape ARTfest.
