Despite Milton showing confidence, it was opponents Sussex who would begin the game better, and they took the sword to Milton, completely shutting them out of the game.
Eventually the pressure led to a goal and Sussex went in 1-nil up and looked to press home the advantage in the second half.
Milton had to get back into the game, and soon after the break appeared to settle and play more of their quick, controlled passing game that had been absent from the first half.
Midway through the half a corner resulted in Daniel squeezing the ball in at the near post to go 1-all.
Then Simon, in a quite extraordinary few minutes, hit two sensational free kicks from similar positions past the Sussex keeper’s outstretched arms and in for the score to suddenly jump to 3-1, a scoreline where it remained until full-time.
Milton must start games better to avoid putting pressure on themselves, and each player is going to have to step up in the grand final in two week’s time for the premiership.
FOURTEEN girls braved the 14 degree weather on Saturday morning to play their seven-a-side match at Lighthouse Oval.
It was a great game between these fearless players who battled out the match until the final minute, when a header scored the one goal of the game for the opposing side.
It was so pleasing to see so many well thought out moves and passes in the game with an equal number of outstanding defensive actions.
There are no more training sessions on Thursdays and just two more games for the 2014 season.
This Saturday the game is at 9am and the following Saturday will be the final game and presentation morning, also starting at 9am.
AFTER a highly successful run up the ladder this season the Panthers were elevated into the SDFA junior semi-finals round against Shoalhaven Heads at Ison Park on Saturday, August 30.
With little or no rain overnight to speak of, the soccer fields were in damp but playable conditions to host what was to be a great spectacle of football.
Milton was in a highly charged state as they were lead onto the field just before 9.30am.
Running from north to south with a cold breeze and fine spits rain, it was anyone's game at the outset with a flurry of kicks being exchanged between the two sides.
Heads then created some momentum and breached Milton’s defence with a number of pot shots headed toward the Panthers’ goal.
Sensing that it was not going to be a walk in the park, Milton tried desperately to turn the tide with some good passing and heading the ball ever increasingly toward the opponent's half.
Remy, Jack B., Tim and Taj stepped up to the mark, as they invariably do, and helped force play threateningly closer to Heads’ goals.
The first goal of the day then went to Milton and was scored by Flynn off an accurately placed pass by fullback Blake.
With the first goal racked up the Panthers kept things on the boil and went in for a second goal, this time by Ethan, who was a little unlucky in not having scored earlier off a brilliant but thwarted attempt.
Lachlan's goalkeeping was like a magnet to steel and worked his skill at preventing several attempts by Heads at Milton's goals.
Despite this, Heads went in to score their only goal of the day just before the break making the half-time score 2-1 in favour of Milton.
Knowing that the outcome of this game was sudden death for the losing side, both teams headed back to the field with determination and a clear sense of purpose.
Some incredible displays of football were in the offing from both teams with the powerful Heads side jettisoning the ball well into the Panthers half on innumerable occasions.
Despite this, Milton had a response for just about every move by the opponents with Russell, Andrew, Archie and Tom giving it all that they had to keep the ball out of harm's way.
After having worked tirelessly at clearing the Heads defence, it was Ethan to the rescue once again with a carefully planted kick that landed the Panthers their third and final goal for the day.
At the full-time whistle it was Milton who emerged as victors on the day with a remarkable 3-1 win.
Milton will head into the finals round this Saturday and will play against the losing team between the Huskisson and Callala clash.
