It is still practiced today by Mongols who make rugs, tents and even clothing with felt.
As part of ARTfest this September there will be a workshop teaching the ancient art that enables you to create unique items and gifts.
Kathie Ryan will be hosting the one of a kind workshop and says felting is an easy and fun craft for all ages.
“It’s very easy, for those that don’t like knitting it’s actually easy - all you need to do is be able to roll the felt,” Kathie said.
“I belong to local spinner group and I learnt the skill there, I’ve shared my skills with U3A groups who have really embraced it and it’s lots of fun.”
In the four hour workshop Kathie will step workshop participants through the process of wetting and rolling coloured felt into a scarf.
Kathie has been a keen spinner since 18 and discovered the joys of felting only two years ago, however she is now a self-confessed felting enthusiast.
“You don’t need any previous experience and you will leave the workshop with a scarf of your own,” she said.
“All materials are included in the cost of the workshop - all you need is to bring some enthusiasm.”
The workshop will be held at 9am on Tuesday, September 23 at St Martins Church Hall, Ulladulla.
Bookings for the workshop can be made by contacting Kathie Ryan on 0414 566 705.
