The March-June 2014 quarterly tourism statistics collated by DestinationNSW reveal the South Coast received nearly 3.4 million domestic overnight visitors, up by 11.1 per cent on figures for the same time last year.
This equates to over 11.4 million nights in the region, representing an increase of 2.5 per cent on figures for the year ending June 2013.
The South Coast, compromising six tourism destinations spanning a geographical area from Wollongong to Eden, also received 110,800 international visitors, up 6.7 per cent on the same time last year.
These visitors spent a staggering $143 million dollars during their stay, up by nearly a quarter (22 per cent) compared to the same time period last year.
South Coast Regional Tourism Organisation (SCRTO) Chair, Brian Longbottom says the South Coast region continues to go from strength to strength in tourism terms because of its focus on the “four c’s” –commitment, collaboration, consistent messaging and a constant presence in market.
“These latest statistics from Destination NSW are tangible confirmation of the strong presence the South Coast of NSW has in the domestic and international tourism market. Individual tourism destinations under the South Coast geographical banner undertake their own marketing campaigns and events throughout the year, but these efforts are layered with collaborative marketing campaigns as a region.”
He said the South Coast could now offer tourists affordable and enjoyable holiday options all year round.”
The South Coast Sub Region (Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley, excluding Jervis Bay Territory) recorded over 2.4 million domestic overnight visitors, up by 13.7 per cent on last year.
