This event challenges runners to nominate the time they will run over a set course and the athlete finishing the closest to their projected time is the winner.
The course is a tough but scenic 6.18 kilometres around Dolphin Point, starting and finishing at the Lions Park.
Eighteen keen RATS took to the streets on timekeeper John Hepburn’s instruction, with various strategies being adopted, with varying levels of success.
State half marathon age group champion, Steve Grant took an early lead and forged away to cross the line in a speedy 22:37.
Martin Tomasini was the next RAT home with a solid 25:20 and Aimee Randall picked up the third fastest time with 28:20.
The fastest competitors are not necessarily the winners in this event with the final results not decided until the last competitor crosses the line.
In a first for this event there was a tie for first place, with both Jake Myors and Martin Tomasini recording a six-second differential and Kim Waters next in line, with a creditable 12 seconds.
Then followed Tim Myors with 18 seconds and Aimee Randall at 22 seconds. The Bradman Award (highest score) went to Dion Carter with an 8:17 differential, his list of excuses were gold.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the morning, which was spectacular given the location and the weather.
Many RATS enjoyed coffee after at Lakeside Cafe, with two notables carb loading with the pancake brekkie.
