Slicker than a fine toothed comb through wet hair is the ever so stylish Weekly Wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf, keeping you informed with all the surf happenings locally and what has been happening on the pro tour.
The postcard days just keep on coming, with these continuing warming days which automatically kick start your barbecue fetishes and love of thongs (the ones on your feet), which was also united with a strong little throb of swell popping in for a stay at beaches all up and down the local coast.
The other notable thing this week was the school holidays rolling into its second week with a swarm of kids infiltrating the line-up with so much energy and freckles you would swear the kids mix their Weet-Bix with Red Bull.
As we look at the week to ahead we should be in for more of this summer weather and even a little jump in the swell today should give us another reason to keep on smiling.
The warm weather brought the gurfer brigade out in force on Saturday morning at Narrawallee.
Under the tutelage of Roz Johnson 12 women hit the water and the volume levels rose from quite and tranquil to a rambunctious squabble of activity.
The girls all had their fair share of waves while mother nature put on her best exhibition of tantalizing beauty.
Sunday morning was another corker of a day and ready to grab the morning by the jugular and milk it for it its worth was young Jarrod Hart Wessel. Jarrod, who has just returned from a long stay in New Zealand, was beside himself when he hit the water in his home town after being immersed in near frozen waters just a few short days previous.
Jarrod also made up for lost time as he managed to catch just about every wave within a 50 meter radius of him and when he did get the wave he would surf it till the last drop of water had the power to carry him, making his welcome home surf one to remember.
A reminder there will not be an Ulladulla Boardriders event this weekend due to the long weekend.
With conflicting events up the coast we will not be holding an event in October and instead meeting again on Sunday, November 1 for our last event of the year.
Tyler Wright took out the Roxy Pro with a near-perfect performance.
Wright used her radical manoeuvres on the lip to earn two nine-point rides on back-to-back waves.
Courtney Conlogue, looking for her first event win for the 2014 season, had to take big risks to try to overtake a near-perfect two-wave total.
With a comfortable lead, Wright went for a big air and slob grab, and rode out cleanly for another nine.
She continued her tear with a 9.70, which only further improved her heat total.
The Australian finished the final with four nine-point rides.
“That was one of the best Finals I've ever been in wave-wise,” Wright said after her second event win of 2014.
“It wasn't a wave-catching contest, it was a wave-riding contest and that's the way I love to surf.”
