The meal was prepared by the commercial cookery students under the supervision of the head chef Greg King and served by the hospitality students under the supervision of Taffie’s Maître D Paul Seiden.
After the meal Dusit Triyapanjawit was awarded the Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla Student of the Year Shield and Trophy and was presented with the Award of Excellence Perpetual Shield and a Trophy at Taffie's by Rotarian Terry Marchello.
Dusit is a Thai born international student who started his studies, Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, at the Ulladulla Campus in July 2013 and completed his course in June 2014.
Dusit had previous experience in commercial cookery in Thai kitchens but wished to broaden his skills with more Western and European-based methods of cookery.
Thai cooking involves using a lot of heat but Australian cooking uses far less heat.
Dusit was, at first, hesitant about being enrolled as a midyear intake as his level of English was not the best.
At an interview with the TAFE’s head chef Greg King, Dusit's options were discussed as Mr King knew this young man had special flair for cooking.
Dusit brings with him not only cultural diversity but a passion for success that is second to none.
He is admired and respected by both campus staff and students.
Dusit excelled with his studies at Ulladulla TAFE and the results he achieved for both practical and theoretical modules were of some of the highest standards Mr King has witnessed.
Dusit resides in Batemans Bay and travelled to TAFE two days a week.
He never missed a lesson and was always on time.
His wife Wanthanee would often accompany him with their baby son Maysa and share lunch with staff and students.
This definitely attributed to a more relaxed, social environment among the group.
Dusit was inquisitive at all times and would, in turn, pass on his knowledge of cookery styles from the Thai culture to staff and students. Dusit is employed in a local establishment and is currently applying for his full trade qualification, which will be endorsed by Greg King.
The Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla extended their personal thanks to Mr King King for background notes for Dusit's story and to Paul Seiden.
