All the best to both teams for this weekend.
Saints v Thunder 34-43
THUNDER got off to a great start through some great passing and shooting. Zach Weeks and James Clarke were dominating this quarter.
Saints made a comeback in the second quarter with some tight defence and sharp ball skills. Saints were well and truly back in the game in the third quarter thanks to some sharp shooting by Terry Dorrell. Thunder managed to consolidate their lead in the last quarter, taking away any chance that Saints had at taking the lead.
Best defender: Ben Munyard
Best passer/top scorer/MVP: J Clarke
Rhinos v Hawks 38-34
IT was a close first quarter with Rhinos ahead by one point. Luke scored some great baskets and Adam made some big intercepts. Guy Burgess was on fire in the second quarter, scoring many baskets. Sam was playing fantastic defence and offence. There was still only one point in the game at the end of the third quarter despite Nathan Shea and Blake Smith getting some good shots and playing well. The last quarter saw Hawks surge on the scoreboard until Rhinos managed a comeback and then held Hawks out to win 38-34.
Best defender: Nathan Webb
Best passer: Luke Wilford
Top scorer: Sam Parkes
MVP: Adam
Avengers v Eagles 70-30
AVENGERS found themselves in foul trouble in the first quarter but led 14 to eight. Eagles had their fair share of the ball but struggled to convert. Two late three pointers saw Avengers take the lead. Avengers dominated in the second quarter with their fast break points. Eagles were scrapping for rebounds. Avengers showed good control and their score ticked along constantly. Scott Granger put in a couple of three pointers to keep Eagles in touch. Avengers came out in the second half of the game looking to dominate and were passing usefully. Some nice under-basket work by Tim and Matt helped the Eagles’ cause. Transitional basketball by the Avenger was taking its toll on the undermanned Eagles. Fatigue kicked in for Eagles in the last quarter. The youth and numbers for Avengers saw them win this match 70-30.
Best defender: Matthew Valentine
Best passer: Brenden Armstrong
Top scorer/MVP: Ryan Armstrong
SeaSalt v Ex-Servos 44-16
IT was a slow scoring first quarter but there was plenty of action. The game was fast paced and Ex-Servos got themselves into foul trouble which saw SeaSalt with some free throws. SeaSalt then found themselves in foul trouble in the second quarter, sending Ex-Servos to the line. Despite the foul trouble, SeaSalt went full court defensive, forcing turnovers and extending their lead 14-7. A big three pointer from Jace helped to keep Ex-Servos in the game. Sam Anderson opened the third quarter with a three pointer causing Ex-Servos to go into a full court defensive, gaining a few turnovers. Ex-Servos were unable to convert into point and some failed steal attempts turned into fast breaks for SeaSalt. SeaSalt started the last quarter playing solid defence and running the ball hard. Ex-Servos never really troubled their lead and SeaSalt won this game 44-16.
