The event is part of National Grandparents Day celebrations being hosted by Shoalhaven City Council in conjunction with the Council on the Ageing NSW and the Milton Ulladulla Family Support Service.
Grandparents Day was launched in 2011 by the NSW Government as an annual initiative to recognise the role grandparents play in our communities.
Shoalhaven Mayor Joanna Gash said grandparents played an irreplaceable role in providing younger generations with care, love and guidance, and the grand tea would give people an opportunity to thank grandparents for the parts they played within families and the wider community.
“Grandparents Day comes as a reminder to stop and say thank you and remember the special moments you have had with your loved ones,” Cr Gash said.
“Most people have very fond memories of their grandparents and the integral role they play within the formative years of your life.
“The upcoming Grand Tea for Grandparents events are a great way to bring the whole family together and celebrate the invaluable role grandparents play in our community.
“These events will see grandparents come together to share a morning tea with entertainment from local preschools and schools and the opportunity to meet other grandparents in their community.”
The event will also include the release of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Resource Guide developed by council in response to the increasing number of grandparents raising grandchildren in the Shoalhaven.
The guide includes information on services, networks and support groups are available for grandparents, and will be available in booklet form and on council’s website.
Bookings are essential and more information can be obtained from Karen Denny at Shoalhaven City Council on 4429 3411.
