A special thank you morning tea was held for the open garden participants.
Without their beautiful gardens the weekend would not have been possible. Club president Lindy Bonser and with two open gardeners, Robin Coogan and Anna Flynn, attended the monthly meeting of the hospital auxiliary to present them with a cheque from the profits of the weekend to go towards the new renal unit at Milton Hospital.
With the Christmas season fast approaching the November meeting of the garden club will be its last for the year.
However the Christmas lunch is on Monday, December 1 downstairs at the Mollymook Beachside Golf Club starting at 11am.
The theme is an Aussie bush Christmas so come dressed appropriately. There will be prizes for the best dressed members.
Payment must be finalised at the November meeting.
Starting January 26 at the first meeting of 2015, the club will be holding its monthly meetings upstairs at the Ulladulla Civic Centre.
As club membership has increased over 200 members, a bigger venue was a good idea.
A change of venue also means changes in the way the meeting and catering will operate.
Anyone interested in volunteering or even supervising volunteers at meetings please contact Sue McMahon with details and availability.
A functioning club always needs a good committee so please consider either becoming a committee member in 2015 or helping in some small way throughout the year.
The club’s newsletter is published monthly.
If you have an email address it will be sent to you in colour and electronically a week before the meeting.
Please see a committee member to give them your email details.
Patrick Faulkner was the guest speaker at the October meeting.
As gardeners, his talk on the Avenue of Trees at Milton was very informative.
Seventy-six trees were originally planted in 1926 on the highway near Mick Ryan Park to honour those who died in combat during WWI.
Only five trees remain today.
Patrick would like the council and community to replant trees in time for the 2015 remembrances at ANZAC Day.
The competition winners at the October meeting for the most beautiful single perfect bloom were Janette Walker, Graeme Oke and Barbara Rutledge.
Lucky door prize winner was Philippa Cleal.
The plant of the month for the November 24 meeting is the Iochroma.
The competition is a fresh floral Christmas centrepiece.
The club’s November guest speakers, Lynne and Brian Phelan from the Shoalhaven Orchid Society, are specialist in all things orchids.
New health and welfare officers are Lyn and Joe Spiteri.
Members who need a bit of TLC can contact them and they will certainly offer some kind and helpful words.
Members are reminded that the last Dunn Lewis Centre gardening morning is Wednesday, November 26.
The club has coffee mornings and bus trips throughout the year with competitions, trading tables, prizes and great tea and coffee at monthly meetings. All for $1 entry.
Come and enjoy a friendly Monday morning with the garden club at St Martins Church Hall.
The general meetings are always on the last Monday of the month.
The next meeting will be Monday, November 24.
Doors open at 9am for a 9.30am start.
Visitors and new members are always welcome.
