The 2014 NSW Senior PGA Championship Pro-Am will be held over two days on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 at the club’s Hilltop course.
With a $30, 000 prize pool, Mollymook Golf Club director of golf Barry West said the tournament is the premier event for Mollymook Golf and the biggest event in the NSW golf calendar.
“It has the title, it’s prestigious and some of the biggest names in professional golfers in the masters category will be here,” he said.
Terry Price, Rodger Davis and Mike Harwood are just some of the golfing big guns who will join over 50 professionals in the sport who have signed up to take part in the two day event.
But the tournament isn’t just about the pros.
For each professional players at least three amateur golfers from clubs all around the country will tee-off for 18 holes.
They will also get a chance to join forces with the pros in a team event.
“Obviously the pros will be playing for the prize money, that’s how they make their living, but there are plenty of prizes up for grabs for the amateur players,” Barry said.
Over $3000 worth of golf gear is on offer, and even a new car, an Isuzu Mux LSU wagon valued at $45,000, for anyone who can get a hole in one on the ninth hole.
“Spectators are also more than welcome to walk around and watch some of the Australia’s legends play,” Barry said.
Mollymook hosted the inaugural Milton-Ulladulla Apex Legends of Golf Pro-Am in December 2013.
This event was the brainchild of Carl Roklitzer from Burcher Services, who had been working on the idea for several years.
The tournament was so successful that it was voted by players as one of the top five PGA tournaments in the state, and as a result, Mollymook Golf Club earnt the right to hold a championship-status two-day tournament in 2014.
Carl said not only did the tournament put Mollymook Golf Club on the map, it will also be a major drawcard for tourism in the area.
“Personally I have clients from Queensland to the Victorian border who are all coming down to play and have booked accommodation in the area,” he said.
If you prefer to enjoy yourself away from the greens and fairways a championships dinner will be held on the Friday night at the Beachside course and is open for anyone to attend.
Greg Ritchie, former Australian cricketer, is back by popular demand to MC the dinner.
Tickets are $75, which includes a three course dinner and beverages.
If you are interested in playing in the tournament, cost is $125 for both days or $75 for one.
Tee off times are either 7am or 12.30pm on both days in a shotgun start.
Entry fee includes a barbecue lunch and people playing the two days will receive a welcome bag that includes a cap and other goodies from the tournament’s sponsors.
Entry forms can be picked up from the Mollymook Golf Club, with the final day to enter Friday, November 21.
