Lake Conjola and Fishermans Paradise RFS stations amalgamated this year but the grant application was submitted by the Fishermans Paradise brigade in early 2013.
“We couldn’t do anything with the grant until the two brigades officially merged,” Conjola Rural Fire Brigade captain Geoff Phillips explained.
“We decided to purchase new helmets with the grant money and they are much better than the standard issued ones from the RFS.
“These ones have a flash light on the top and a special visor to protect the volunteers from the heat,” he added.
The Conjola Rural Fire Brigade has 40 members and out of that number 15 actively attend call-outs.
Both stations at Lake Conjola and Fishermans Paradise are in use under the captaincy of Geoff, who has been involved in the RFS for 20 years.
“It is all working really well,”” he said.
“Everyone is getting along well and the whole unit is running smoothly.”
Geoff said the brigade was always looking for new members. If you are interested in joining, please call Geoff on 0412 552 225.
