The 89-year-old man drove into the car park in front of the supermarket and was slowing to reverse his car into a parking space, but as he slowed his foot slipped off the break and onto the accelerator.
The car went forward, narrowly missing a man.
The blue Daihatsu Applause collided with two glass panels, shattering them but the laminating kept the glass pieces together.
A metal pillar between the panes was also buckled.
The driver was shaken by the incident, but suffered only a minor injury to his right arm which was treated by paramedics on the scene.
The car was towed away as repairs were carried out to the front of the supermarket.
Police inquiries into the incident are continuing.
