Sweeter than fairy floss dunked into creamy soda is the instant rush known as the weekly wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf, keeping you informed with all the surf happenings locally and what's been happening on the pro tour.
Well that was one hell of a week that slipped past us unannounced, with every website predicting conditions that rivalled a retired boxer's nose - flat and lumpy.
Many simply believed and took gospel in the internet's magical crystal ball and decided surfing, especially late in the week, was not going to happen, and finding something else to do would have been accepted.
Now this is exactly where the websites are not 100 per cent correct.
You should still make the effort and stray from the computer screen to visualise the waves as last week had some memorable moments.
On Thursday we expected flaccid waves and were surprised by six foot plus peaks gorging themselves across our coast line.
One of the so called "flat surf" mornings was one of the best surprises of the year, a day when the crowds were kept at bay, a semi-secret ledge came to life and breathed more fire than a dragon that just accidently skulled a bottle of Tabasco sauce.
The waves rose out of the deep and detonated in front of the eyes of master shaper Dylan Perese.
Dylan, who is also a very good surfer, wiped the sleep out of his eyes and took a double blink to say ‘am I still dreaming or what?’
As another wave ran down in front of his eyes he didn't have to think any longer and quickly paddled out among the roaring slabs to enjoy the thrilling rides on hand all the time thinking to himself, ‘where the heck did this swell come from?’
On Sunday, December 14 at 5pm there will be an event held at Akwa Surf for anyone looking to progress their surfing skills and mental approach, which will give you a little leg-up when among the waves, especially in big waves.
The Healthfit Wave Training Event will have all the latest clips complied by Max Zappas of local super stars Russell Bierke, Brett Burcher, Elliot Marshall, Jarrah Orphin, Sean and Tess Mawson surfing and training.
This puts you in their shoes as we watch the guys train and prepare for contest surfing and also dealing with hood downs and monstrous wipe outs. There will be a lucky door prize for a free Healthfit Surf training Program, so we will take emails and announce it after the showing.
We will keep you posted on Akwa Surf's Facebook page.
The date is set for Ulladulla Boardriders presentation to be held on Friday, December 12.
We will be celebrating our 40th year in style at the Ulladulla ExServos club from 6pm.
This is a free event and all members and guests are more than welcome to help us celebrate the year with heaps of fun and prizes.
Someone will walk away with the overseas trip to either Hawaii/Bali or Fiji for the open champ.
The men's and women's World Title races are so close both could come down to a surf-off at their final events of the year.
A surf-off happens when, after the last event of the season, two athletes are tied on final rankings points, so an additional heat (or more) is needed to determine the World Title winner.
The Billabong Pipe Masters and the Target Maui Pro will determine this year's men's and women's champions respectively.
If ties between specific surfers happen, the 2014 Title winner(s) will be determined only with an additional faceoff - a protocol that has been used only once before in ASP history.
On the men's tour, Mick Fanning and Gabriel Medina could end up deadlocked if Medina is eliminated in rounds two or three and Fanning finishes in equal fifth.
On the women's tour, there are two ways the title could come down to a tie-breaker: Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmorewould tie if Fitzgibbons wins the event and Gilmore finishes in third; Gilmore and Tyler Wright would tie if Wright wins the event and Gilmore finishes in fifth.
The only instance of an ASP surf-off was in 2011, when Caio Ibelli and Garrett Parkes had a single sudden-death heat to decide the world junior title.
Stay classy Milton Ulladulla, and if anyone would like to add anything to this column, either call into AKWA surf, buzz us on 4454 5222 or email mekurt@akwasurf.com.au.
Until next week, stay wet.
