The environment, the light and the waterbirds inspired her recent works that will go on exhibition at Cupitt’s Winery on Thursday December 11.
Many of Penny’s new works feature ducks and geese, floating teacups and musical instruments, while others are landscapes of the lake near her home.
She said Stillness was an exhibition of paintings exploring the feeling of stillness, of time standing still.
“These paintings have been created through the year, which has been a year of loss for me,” she said.
“They are not paintings of sadness, however, but more about the environment I live in, the memories I have and the moments of wonder I see.
“I walk around Conjola Lake with its ever changing light and colours and I see a lone goose floating on the waters and then I see two ducks - Where have they come from? Are they lost? Has someone left them there or are they there of their own free will?
“And along with these thoughts I have music inside myself, and the landscape all around.
“So I walk and I sing or hum and the music calms me and makes me feel calm.”
Penny said the paintings have a symbolic meaning, but are also open ended for the viewer to decide where they wish the image to take them.
The Tribal Funk Orchestra (TFO) will play during the exhibition opening from 6-8pm.
