Yuukan Judo Club ended its year with the Christmas party and presentation and again the awards kept coming for members who achieved the club awards.
These awards are based on tournament points within the club and were well contested among members.
Highest points for Mons boys/girls - Eva Gautier.
Highest points for junior boys/girls - Amelie Gautier.
Highest points for senior boys division - Paris de Casanove.
Highest points for cadet - Michael Haughey
There are three main merit awards for the club each year and junior Sensei Blake picked the winners. There were so many to choose from, we thought it be best to leave it up to him.
Perpetual “Spirit” trophy - Eva Gautier. This is the club trophy everyone should be striving to achieve. This is an award for not only talent within judo but also because of great character and continuous efforts to better oneself as an individual. The winner this year is a kind, determined, resilient person who always goes to competitions and puts in 100 per cent.
This is the same with club randori - they do not cry when they lose and battle on when they are hurt. They do not pretend that they are hurt when the going gets tough.
Eva always helps out the younger members of the club and always shows kindness and compassion.
She has continued on the same belt since 2009 and not once complained, been disappointed or even asked why others are graded around her.
She is focused on improving herself and does not compare herself with others.
Eva displays the qualities that make up a great judoka that everyone should be trying to strive for. She always behaves and respects anyone who is taking the class.
2014 Judoka of the year and overall point’s scorer - Amelie Gautier.
This person has determination so strong that you can see it in their eyes. She always takes others into consideration, sometimes so much so it is impractical.
Amelie always helps out with the classes and pulls anyone that is mucking up in line.
She has a strong spirit and strives to act with integrity all the time. She is always thinking about the consequences of her actions.
Amelie consistently makes sacrifices and looks out for what is right rather than doing what is easy.
Encouragement for 2014 - Rylan Taylor.
This year the encouragement award goes to someone who has only been doing judo since the beginning of the year.
Rylan has shown great commitment in training and at competitions.
He has travelled to and competed in more competitions than many people who have been doing judo for a lot longer.
Ryan will achieve great things if he continues to apply himself. Congratulations Rylan.
Yuukan members also had a grading for those who were eligible to grade and the ones that have completed the JFA grading syllabus.
These members were: Jake Hoogenboom, Rylan Taylor, Ottis Taylor and Drew Taylor.
Other members will be able to sit their grading in the new year.
The club would like to thank the following for supporting Yuukan Judo Club members throughout the year with great prizes for the raffles and donations: Racecourse Beach Caravan Park, My Patch (Milton), Southern Man, Rip Curl and would like to thank the ongoing support from The Milton Ulladulla Times as well as the people within the Ulladulla/Bawley Point community.
