Come Friday the sand and surf will be swarming with competitors keen to show the crowd what they have got in the 2015 NSW Stramit Country Surf Life Saving Championships.
Makenzi Ring is one Mollymook competitor to look out for.
The 15-year-old will be competing in the under 17s division in the ironwoman, board and swim events.
“I really hope I can make the final of the ironwoman as I made the final last year,” she said.
Makenzi said in the past she had travelled to South West Rocks to compete and was happy competitors from Mollymook would once again have the hometown advantage.
“Knowing the beach is always a plus,” she said.
“And being able to get a good night’s sleep in my own bed.”
Shoalhaven City Council successfully secured a bid to host the event in Mollymook for 2014 and 2015, and the 2014 titles in January last year brought more than 1250 competitors to the beach and an estimated $5 million in economic benefits to the region.
The championships this week are expected to be even bigger, with more than 1500 competitors and a predicted 5000 spectators to descend on Mollymook Beach.
Although Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club’s volunteers and event officials will be up before dawn preparing for Friday’s events, the competition starts at 8am with surf, board, sprint, ironwoman, flags, team and relay events.
These events continue from 8am on Saturday with the inclusion of ironman, board rescue, board riding, ski, tube rescue and the popular surf boat races.
The action will still be going on Sunday with beach run, taplin, cameron, double ski and board, with the highly anticipated march past at 9.15am.
Here all the competing clubs will get a chance to showcase their team and club colours, an event that always draws a crowd.
