A diary, photos and information about local people who served in WWI will be on display, in keeping with this year’s show theme.
Members have been encouraged to submit their Milton-Ulladulla reminiscences to the local Evening VIEW Club, for a publication to be launched later in 2015, in aid of the Smith Family’s education program, while several of the society’s archival photos have been included in the new Kingsclear book on the Shoalhaven area, now available from the society and other outlets.
Several members were invited to the launch of this book at the Lady Denman Museum, Huskisson.
The society continues its search for a permanent home for meetings, storage and displays of archival material and artefacts pertinent to the rich history of the Milton-Ulladulla district.
Unfortunately, due to the rental and maintenance stipulations of council and Crown Lands, Ulladulla’s Oldest House now appears to be an impractical option as the public face of the society.
As well as members having to use their own homes as storage, four other spaces are currently being rented by the society for storage and meetings.
Frequent appeals to council for suggestions regarding a suitable site have been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the society has welcomed December’s decision by council to keep Milton Library available for public use and, hopes this will continue to be the case, as this historic building was originally funded by the local residents as the town’s School of Arts, to be used for education, not commercial gain.
The next meeting of the Milton-Ulladulla Historical Society Inc will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 17, at the Milton Uniting Church Old Manse, when the guest speaker will be Anthony Barca, long-time resident and member of the Barca family, of Ulladulla barbers.
Visitors welcome.
