A strong squad of 13 players will spend four days, along with 84 other teams from around Australia and New Zealand, battling it out for the Runaway Bay carnival title.
Brimming with experience, the team is headed by local footy legends including the current first grade coach Paul “Orbie” Love, who played over 416 career games and was in first grade until he was in his 40s.
Also in the squad is Kevin “Darkie” Dark, who is an ex-Bulldog with 12 years of service to the club and a turn of speed that often catches defenders out.
There is also Owen “Dredgie” Dredge, who is the current reserve grade coach and a member of the 2008 Bulldogs premiership team, who has also played in group 10 for the Cowra Magpies, feeder club for Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs and St Christopher Rugby League Club.
At the forefront of the team will be Scott “Dommi” D’Ombrian and Nathaniel “Funnel” Morrison.
Scott is the baby of the squad, but is deadly in attack and able to tackle anything that moves.
He joined the Bulldogs last year after a distinguished career, playing for the Forbes Magpies in group 11, Orange CYMS in group 10 and St Mary’s and St Christophers in Sydney.
He now plays both first and reserve grade, and coaches the juniors.
Nathaniel, an ex- Bulldog, has played around the country and is well known in the rugby league circles.
While many threw a party after he retired, sick of being run over in every match, the Milton Ulladulla juniors gained a valuable ambassador for their club.
The full line up of players that will represent Milton Ulladulla on the Gold Coast this week is Todd Barkley, David Caisley, Mick Hampson, Paul Love, Peter Leffley, Dale Farmilo, Scott D’Ombrain, Owen Dredge, Nathaniel Morrison, Brett Wilkins, Kevin Dark, Danny Payne and Steve Swinbourne.
The junior Bulldogs have plenty of players to inspire them in the coming years, with many of the masters team members giving up their time to help out with the junior club year after year, ensuring local talent is passed down through the generations.
This is one of the reasons why junior rugby league development has been so strong in the Milton Ulladulla area.
A special thank you to Raine and Horne which has provided great sponsorship over the years at grass roots level, putting money back into the community through the Milton Ulladulla Touch Association, Bulldogs JRLFC and the senior Bulldogs RLFC.
