The Bannisters dining room was packed to hear the popular judge from The Block and Selling Houses Australia presenter talk about her life growing up in suburban Melbourne and how she went on to forge her design and television career.
Shaynna spoke about her new book Design With Colour and Style and guests were able to purchase a copy and have it signed after lunch.
Over a three course menu, Shaynna explained how living with her parents in a cluttered, unfinished house, where nothing matched, inspired her to be neat and organised.
However her parents’ carefree outlook also gave her the opportunity to experiment with design as a teenager, when she was allowed to do whatever she liked in her bedroom, so ripped up the carpet and stuck aluminium foil on the walls with clag paste!
Shaynna said she soon learnt how to use a screwdriver, paintbrush and how to stick a tile on.
After talking about her background and her new book, Shaynna answered questions from her guests who were keen to learn more about discovering their personal style.
She said people’s homes should be all about their personality and experiences in life.
“It’s all about celebrating who you are, your personality,” she said.
She encouraged people not to be afraid of colour and to live in their house with the colours that made them feel good.
“Be brave, be individual, have fun,” Shaynna added.
Her new books is aimed at helping people discover their own personal style, by thinking about their lifestyle and what makes them happy.
The book is now available from the Harbour Bookstore in Ulladulla.
