It all comes to a head with the Blessing of the Fleet Festival on Easter Sunday, a huge celebration of the region’s vibrant community and rich fishing culture.
One of the state’s biggest festivals, the Blessing of the Fleet Festival will see thousands of people line up along the Princes Highway to watch about 20 floats, bands, clowns, performers and large numbers of colourful and zany characters head up and down the Princes Highway behind a statue of St Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, carried by members of the region’s fishing families.
The floats will carry the best of the region’s youth as princesses and their partners take part in this time-honoured event.
The parade ends with floats lining up in front of the Ulladulla Harbour, for the fishing feet to be blessed.
Before and after the parade there will be plenty to see and do with entertainment on two stages, food stalls, roving performers and a Scottish Tattoo.
Beach games on the harbour foreshore will produce plenty of excitement as people take on the challenge of climbing a greasy pole, toss thongs, pull of rope or eat plates full of spaghetti while keeping their hands behind their back.
There are also circus performances and more, all adding up to an amazing day the ends with a fireworks display over Ulladulla harbour.
And while the Blessing of the Fleet is a major drawcard, is it far from the only thing to do over the Easter weekend.
Also taking place on Easter Sunday is the Ulladulla Stamp and Coin Fair and the Millhouse Easter Art Exhibition, both happening in the Ulladulla Civic Centre.
The day promises an abundance of family fun, which will start on Saturday evening with the unique nocturnal surfing teams competition on Mollymook Beach.
Teams of five will take part in the event with heats starting at 4pm, and the competition continuing into the night crating the eerie experience of people surfing at night on a floodlit beach.
The surfing will be accompanied by live music and fantastic food to create a unique event.
It adds to the attraction of Easter in Milton Ulladulla, bringing large numbers of people to the region and providing a massive financial boost for the local economy.
