After a week of downpour and deluge, there had been some nervous netballers anxiously scanning the weather radar, but, ably supported by an army of umpires, coaches, managers, first aid providers and canteen volunteers, the players took to the court in a riot of colour and whistles under a clear blue sky.
Our NetSetGO players were first on court. These guys practiced the basic skills – passing, footwork, catching – before pulling on their bibs and learning how to play their positions and as part of a team. We are looking forward to watching these six teams develop!
Our intermediate teams were up next. Many of the established teams welcomed NetSetGO graduates into their ranks today.
Having mastered the basics, these players will be practicing defence and attack moves, as well as learning to create and use space on the court.
We hope to see these guys mesh with their team mates and develop into keen netballers.
Our experienced cadets lined up at 1pm. Many of our cadets have been around since NetSetGO and it is a source of club pride to see how far they have come.
These players are reading the game, creating opportunities and pulling fabulous intercepts out of thin air – and it is only week one!
It is going to be tough competition, but we expect some impressive player growth.
From the Whistle
Thanks to all our umpires who helped get round one off to a smooth start for 2015.
Calling all umpires! Please let the association know if you can help out with our weekly umpiring roster. We need six umpires for each time slot so your help is vital.
Are you ready to start umpiring? Keen to blow that whistle? Come and see Ruth or Loz at control and we will arrange for you to be trained. Junior and intermediate players will earn a $5 canteen voucher.
Players’ awards
From round two, coaches and managers of junior and inter teams can select two players each game for the First National Real Estate Ulladulla Netball Sports Award and a McDonald’s Sports Award.
Write the name of your two players on the slips attached to your score sheets.
Umpires will also be selecting two players from each game for the Junior Sports Award points.
Please remember to fill in the slips, place them in the yellow envelopes and return them to control at the conclusion of your game.
