The Ulladulla SES unit is urging residents to be prepared for severe weather in the coming months, by having clean gutters, tying down outdoor furniture, and keeping tree limbs trimmed.
Residents in flood prone areas could also have a roll of plastic sheeting and sandbags handy, that can be filled, if they see that there is a possibility of heavy rain.
The SES also recommends getting familiar with the Bureau of Meteorology website, where you can get up to date forecasts and flooding information for your area.
Due to the large area that the Ulladulla SES covers, they are concerned that there will be a severe weather event, and people will be left without help if the unit is too far away or there are blocked roads.
Taking simple steps to be prepared, will mean people can solve weather related issues themselves, or create a temporary solution until the SES arrives.
The SES also warns people to be sensible when there is severe weather. Do not drive through floodwaters, or go near damaged trees or power lines.
If you wish to find out more about being prepared, contact the SES on 1800 201 000 or visit the flood safe website at http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/communitysafety/floodsafe/.
