The club was recognised for its continued best practice in patrols and administration, and particularly for the hard work of club members in hosting the NSW Country Championships in January.
It was a big night for the club, which was presented with six major awards during the evening held at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling and Recreation Club.
Along with South Coast club of the year, Mollymook Surf Club received the club administrator of the year for Dianne Austin, trainer of the year for Anthony Austin, Assessor of the year for Bruce O’Sullivan, club event of the year for the country championships, Under 19 Lifesaver of the Year for Taryn Love, and a high distinction in the eight to 10 year boys category of the surf sports section for Stirling Norwood.
The awards evening saw a gathering of 117 members and guests present, representing the South Coast branch’s surf lifesaving clubs.
Through the support of Veolia Mulwaree Trust, BlueScope WIN Community Partners and NSW government grant, $60,000 in surf life saving equipment, first aid, training equipment and resuscitation mannequins including new UHF Digital radios was handed to each of the South Coast branch surf life saving clubs in support of their beach patrols and training for the coming summer patrol season.
Other major award winners of the evening were surf lifesaver of the year Thierry Pelaez of Warilla-Barrack Point Surf Life Saving Club, and volunteer of the year Mitchell Pakes, president of the Nowra-Culburra Surf Life Saving.
Thierry performed a surf rescue on January 1, 2015 at Warilla Beach when he rescued a man who had been immersed for four minutes in three metres of water, 30 metres off the beach.
He was brought to the beach and through the efforts of surf lifesavers and paramedics was revived.
The man was taken to Wollongong Hospital and later returned to his home in China.
