Exploding Endings: Painted Dogs and Doom Cakes, by Tim Harris, is an awesomely funny book that made me laugh out loud.
It has 10 short stories with big twists.
Kids of all ages (and cool dads) who like clever, funny stories would like this book.
Page Wars was my favourite story.
Page Wars is about an argument between the left hand page and the right hand page.
Both pages think they’re the best.
Some words in the book are made up, such as “stupidy-dupidy” and there are knock-knock jokes and pirate jokes on almost every page.
I cackled with laughter when I read about a dad dancing like a chicken on the table.
My dad would do that, although he would probably break the table.
I now have some cheeky excuses for being late for school (instead of just blaming my sister) and cool pranks to play on my friends (and mum).
During the holidays if you're looking for something to do, or you’re stuck at home with the flu, get your hands on your own copy.
I guarantee you will never pick the endings!
This book was absolutely fantastic and I cannot wait for the next two books to come out.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Published by Ulladulla’s Harbour Publishing, Exploding Endings - Painted Dog and Doom Cakes, is the first book in a children’s series by one of Australia’s new authors Tim Harris.
Tim Harris throws readers into a world where it rains lemonade, dentists terrorise children, a whole school is put on detention and making a simple chocolate cake is one of life’s more dangerous tasks.
Exploding Endings is a hilarious collection of cleverly-written short stories for primary-aged readers 8-11 years, and is perfect for young readers who enjoy Australian favourites like Andy Griffiths, Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman.
Kids will be beside themselves with laughter as they devour the stories and watch the characters of the left and right pages bicker, fight and sabotage each other throughout the margins of the book.
With a long background in teaching, Tim understands what is needed in a book to keep younger readers excited and engaged, and this is only the first book in a planned series, which introduces this exciting new author to the Australian stage.
The book is now available from the Harbour Bookstore in Rowen’s Arcade.
