Local residents wishing to dispose of flood waste must bring proof of property address through either a rates notice or other identification to one of the area’s waste depots.

“The Shoalhaven has been buffeted by heavy rains for the past few days with parts of the area receiving up to an 470mm in just over 36 hours,” Mayor Joanna Gash said.

“With the clean-up efforts beginning right across the city, Council is offering to accept the disposal of flood damaged goods at no charge to help assist these efforts.

“This offer is available to local residents only with proof of property address required before the disposal of goods at the waste depot.”

“The area has received an incredible deluge over the past few days and Council is looking to assist local residents with the clean up as much as possible.”

The EPA have advised council that the State Government waste levy will also be waived on the flood waste.

The free tipping offer for the disposal of flood damaged goods will be reviewed next Wednesday September 2.

Council will be opening the depots at Berry, Sussex Inlet and Lake Conjola for the whole of next week to assist in the clean-up.

The Waste Depots located at West Nowra, Huskisson and Ulladulla will also be open seven days as per normal.
