More than 70 local homes were flooded in Lake Conjola, Burrill Lake, Sussex Inlet, Sanctuary Point and Shoalhaven Heads.
The rising floodwater has also had an effect on the area’s farmers with a number of local properties damaged and feed lost.
Council will make assistance available to those residents suffering extreme hardship and a loss of possessions.
Mayor Joanna Gash said, with the rain event causing flash flooding right throughout the area, a large number of local residents had been affected.
She is calling on the local community to donate to the Mayor’s Relief Fund set up to assist those that had suffered damage as a result of the flood.
“The recent east coast low sitting just off the local coastline has caused widespread damage to much of the Shoalhaven,” Cr Gash said.
“With parts of the area receiving more than 470 millimetres of rain in just over 36 hours, it was inevitable that a number of properties would be damaged as a result.
“Given the impact of the storm event I am calling on all local residents to donate money to the Mayor’s Relief Fund and assist those most heavily impacted by the storm.
“With a lot of residents suffering serious damage to their properties and contents it is important that we gather as a community and support those that that need it most.
“Hopefully the local community will be able to raise enough money to ensure all of those affected are able to be supplied with some of assistance in getting back on their feet.
“The residents of the Shoalhaven have proven themselves to be a tough yet compassionate community in dealing with natural disasters.
“I certainly encourage all local residents to dig deep and help assist those affected by the recent weather event.”
Cr Gash said local residents could to donate to the Mayor’s Relief Fund by visiting the cashiers at the council administration buildings in Nowra or Ulladulla.
