Shoalhaven City Council is seeking community feedback as part of a review of the Shoalhaven Sports Board.
Ward Three Councillor Patricia White is encouraging people to attend the drop-in session between 5 and 7.30pm at the Ulladulla Civic Centre and raise issues that are important to their sporting organisation.
She said there was an “urgent need for improvement” to the operation of the board that has been governing sporting facilities for 15 years.
“Over many years I have been a strong advocate for improved sporting facilities including upgrades of West Ulladulla, Lighthouse Oval and Mollymook Oval,” CR White said.
“At times I have been very disappointed in the lack of maintenance, construction of facilities and the length of time it takes to see things happen, for example the extension to West Ulladulla Netball Courts, the sealing of the road and carpark.
“Many Sporting groups have contacted me over the years and expressed their concerns and it has been very frustrating dealing with council to resolve issues and concerns.
“This is an excellent opportunity for residents, community members and especially sporting groups to give feedback to the council on the important issues for the future of sport in the Shoalhaven.”
The Shoalhaven Sports Board is a council committee established to provide a voice for the local sporting community.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said council had undertaken a benchmarking comparison, consulted with NSW Sports and Recreation and reviewed the board against other community consultation models as part of the review.
”The board is the peak body in the strategic development of sporting facilities, formulation of ground usage policies and establishment of local amenity priorities.
“The board also provides recommendations to council on strategic and financial matters relating to sport.”
Cr White said it was improtant that the board “keeps up to date with the changing needs of sport in the Shoalhaven, is relevant and is addressing the needs of sporting groups and organisations for playing fields, events and facilities”.
An online survey will also be conducted as part of the review. at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/shoalsport.”
