After a year of meetings with Shoalhaven City Council, Friends of Milton Library president Alison Pakes and secretary Sara Eastway were excited to begin training community members who will man the library.
Following the first training day last Friday, Alison said the group was on track to eventually open the library full-time.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support for the library and have been contacted by about 30 volunteers,” Alison said.
“We now have enough volunteers to be able to staff the library on a full-time basis including a list of relief staff.
“The goal for the next few months is to expand the hours of operation on the current days, Wednesdays and Fridays, to full opening hours and then look at adding Mondays.
“We hope to eventually have the library open full-time.”
The Friends of Milton Library Inc committee has about 16 people who are working hard at developing programs for the library including the reintroduction of storytime, library based children's and adults' bookclubs, literary events, website development and fundraising.
