Members of the newly named Milton District Community Forum, formerly known as the Friends of 2538, are sharing their news, opinions and will soon be voting via their Facebook group.
Forum secretary Rebecca Cameron believes many people don’t have the time to attend lengthy meetings, so the group is making the most of digital technology to keep members connected.
She said, while the group meets quarterly and to discuss urgent issues, most business is online-based.
Since the group formed its Facebook page it has attracted many new members who have taken an interest in what is happening in and around Milton.
“It’s much better for most people,” she said.
“Members can comment online, read the minutes when they have time and soon we will be voting and moving motions via our Facebook page.”
She said digital meetings were becoming more popular and were more accessible than the traditional gatherings in halls or clubs.
“We still meet every quarter, but eventually it will all be online,” Rebecca explained.
She said a fresh group of members was keen to reinvigorate the forum that was Milton’s Community Consultative Body (CCB) to communicate with Shoalhaven City Council.
By going digital, we hope more people will get involved and it’s also open to residents from surrounding areas like Mollymook, Narrawallee and Lake Conjola who have an opinion on council issues or want to have a say.
Residents, business owners and representatives of other organisations can join the Facebook group and get involved by searching for Milton District Community Forum.
