On a grey and overcast day at Ulladulla, Graeme Carriage, with his last bowl of the game, broke the hearts of the Berry team to lead our number two boys to a thrilling two point victory, by converting a one-point deficit to a three-point win.

Despite one rink going down by a 20-point margin, the other two sides rallied and got the home side over the line in a nerve-racking finish to take the big board 9 points to 1.
I reckon John Sparke and Bob Boyd will not have much hair left by the time this pennant season is over!
Next door on the adjacent rinks, the 6Bs were having their own battle against a very stubborn Sussex RSL team, and in a great team performance, won 2 rinks to 1 and the overall by 16. The fives had a very difficult day over at St. George’s Basin and came away not very happy little vegemites after a 9-1 loss, with the one winning rink not being able to carry the other sides over the line. At Sussex RSL, our number 7 team got run down in the last couple of ends by a very persistent opposition who just would not go away.
There were other games of bowls this last weekend with the two semi-finals of the club triples being played on Sunday. In the first, played in the morning, the trio of Amos/ Sawicki/ Carriage led all the way to defeat the team of J. Power/ Snowy Dillon/ John Cleverly 23-13; and in the second in the afternoon, Miller/ P. Best/ Murrell could not hold off a fast finishing team of J. Graham/ Wallace/ Taber who went on to win 25-10.
In late breaking news, it has just been announced that the player of the month for March was none other than Graham Robbo ,so well done Graham although I’ve got a funny feeling this could be his second award (but we won’t hold that against him). The club singles are still open which means you still have time to get in and have a go, and also the District Vets and Supervets day at the club needs a few more names up, so go for it and get your names down - entries close in a couple of weeks.
The weekend just gone saw our number 2 team travel to Nowra, and the 5’s and 7’s playing at home against Nowra and St George’s Basin respectively. Up at Nowra, Graeme Carriage’s four got up on the last end (again) to win by one; Bill Harris’s side came home in a storming finish to pick up 7 points in the last four ends to tie the game; and Ian Fraser’s mob came back from 19-9 down on the 15th end to get back to 19-17 by the 18th, but couldn’t sustain the charge and went down 22-17. The 5’s went down in three very tight games to lose the big board 53-67, and although the 7’s won two rinks to one against S.G.B. they unfortunately could not carry the third side and so lost the overall 56-61.
