Playing word games, preparing plays and performing them were some of the activities people were engaged in.
Speaking in French continued through all the coffee and meal breaks and participants said while it may sound like hard work, there was lots of laughing along the way, making it quite painless.
People of all levels of proficiency, from beginners to advanced, came from as far North as Conjola, and as far South as Broulee. Some activities saw participants split by skills levels, while others were enjoyed by all together.
Juggling this complex programme was AF de MU’s French teacher, Christine Pearce, who had designed an interesting and fun weekend of activities.
Christine was ably assisted by Eva Schonstein and Pauline McAdam.
And the fun doesn't stop there. Heads now turn to the French Film Festival, which will take place over the weekend of May 14 and 15 at the Arcadia Twin Cinema in Ulladulla.
The programme will consist of three films, selected from the 27th Alliance Française French Film Festival 2016 held in capital cities around Australia earlier this year. All three selected award winning films are 2015 releases and all have English subtitles.
The first of the two films on Saturday, May 14 is “The Sweet Escape” at 4pm. This is a quirky, comedic adventure that’s perfect for those who yearn to break out and live their dreams but just don’t quite know how – or why.
There will then be a chance to catch your breath and enjoy a short break with free refreshments served in the foyer, before regrouping for Saturday’s second film which is “Un plus Une” at 6.30pm.
This film is about a music executive who has been sent to Mumbai to score a high-profile Bollywood project. When he meets the Ambassador’s wife, he is drawn into a new world of spirituality and living for the moment.
On Sunday, May 15 “Valley of Love” at 2.30pm will be screened. The extraordinary Isabelle Huppert and irrepressible Gérard Depardieu play a former couple who reunite in the grand landscape of Death Valley, following a mysterious summons from their long-dead son.
The couple’s past and their unresolved feelings play out in various Nevada locations, as they move towards a mysterious epiphany that has echoes of Peter Weir’s Picnic at “Hanging Rock”.
This film will be a fitting finale to the weekend.
Tickets for individual films, or for the whole package of three films, are available from Ulladulla Twin Cinema.
