FRIENDS, family, food, music and wine – they’re the ingredients for the perfect winter weekend and on June 11-13 they all come together.
In its 13th year the Shoalhaven Coast Winter Wine Festival will offer events at nine venues from Gerringong in the north to Bawley Point in the south.
The festival has become a winter staple for foodies, wine lovers and anyone just wanting a weekend that’s a little out of the ordinary.
With a broad selection of award-winning wineries to visit right here in the Shoalhaven it’s an easy way for locals to explore and enjoy.
The event has been firmly locked into the long-weekend-getaway calendar of Sydney and Canberra residents for many years offering a tourism boost during Shoalhaven’s quieter season.
Among this year’s wineries taking part are Yarrawa Estate, Roselea Vineyard, Crooked River Wines, Silos Estate and Wileys Creek, Mountain Ridge Wines, Coolangatta Estate, Two Figs Winery, Cambewarra Estate and Bawley Vale Estate.
Gowin Felice, from Crooked River Wines, said with Shoalhaven being so close to Sydney, compared to the Hunter Valley this was the perfect draw card for residents from Kiama and further north.
“We had a massive festival last year. It was our biggest, I think we had it set up better than in previous years.
“Kiama Scenic Tours is running a parallel service to the train timetable so people can catch a train from Kiama.
“The festival weekend is a perfect opportunity to explore local wines or beers, and find yourself a new favourite.
After purchasing Bawley Vale Estate last year, Chris and Marg Watts are excited to be hosting their first winter wine festival weekend.
“We’re looking forward to the excitement and the crowds it draws,” Mr Watts said.
“We will have live music and are offering food including barbecued venison from deer raised on the property,” he said.
