RATS Annual Charity Day - Sunday, June 26:
This year the RATS are supporting the Ulladulla Soup Kitchen, which provides meals to people in need, at the harbour, a couple of nights a week. A number of people donated cash and a few have pledged their donation by EFT. All RATS will be emailed bank account details, for anyone who still wants to donate by funds transfer.
The RATS next handicap is on July 17 and the opportunity to donate, to this worthwhile charity, will stay open until then.
RATS Handicap # 5 - Mollymook - June 26:
A crisp, fresh start to the day for 15 RATS and one Canberra visitor Siobhan Ryman, who incidentally thought the conditions were quite tropical.
In the 5.5km series, first across the line was the evergreen Don Miller, who bettered his handicap by 1:27, recording a net time of 32:33. Second was mum Leanne Harding, who showed the boys a thing or two, finishing with a net time of 32:16. The final podium spot went to Fiene Schaap, who continues to collect valuable points in the series, with a net time of 32:51. Fastest time in the 5.5km event was Sam Harding with 27:26.
In the 10km series, Bob White checked his speed limiter at one point as he thought he was going too fast, and what do you know - he was. Bob ran well inside handicap recording a very quick 53:55, thought to be a personal best time. Well done Bob. Second was Gay Shearman, fresh from the Batemans Bay parkrun the morning before. Gay ran 50:54 and is starting to regain her usual good form. Third was Rose Robinson, also inside handicap and under the magical 60 minutes, recording a net 59:30. Kevin Le was the quickest RAT in the 10km series with 48:00.
Sunday Run - July 3:
Next Sunday, by request, the Northern Buffer Trail to Kingiman Repeater Station and beyond. Please meet at 6.30am, initially at the bus shelter, at the western end of the bitumen, on Croobyar Road, Milton. From here the RATS will head just around the bend, to the corner of Croobyar Road and Carriages Road for the start of the run.
The start of this run is quite challenging, but don't let this put you off. Once you get up to the top, the next section of the run is flat and scenic, with a few decent undulations to finish. It's hard to estimate the distance of this run, but probably up to 20km.
Dubbo Marathon vs. Blackmores Sydney Running Festival:
Due to a number of considerations, those RATS that were aiming up for the Dubbo Marathon at the end of August, have now decided to look at the Sydney Running Events instead. This will be on Sunday, September, 18.
