Guy David Shareef-Atkinson, who had only recently been released on parole after serving prison time for armed robbery, is alleged to have forced his way inside the Koonawarra home armed with a shovel, while his co-accused was allegedly armed with a gun.
The pair ransacked the lounge room, stealing $7,000 in jewellery, the court heard.
The occupants of the home – a family of four including a 10-month old baby – hid in bedrooms while the alleged crime took place.
Police allege CCTV cameras set up at the house captured Shareef and his co-accused on video as they arrived at the house around 11.40pm on June 5.
The pair were seen to approach the front door, stay a few minutes, then leave, unbeknownst to the alleged victims.
At no time did they knock on the door or appear to be communicating with anyone, police documents said.
The pair allegedly returned an hour later, apparently wearing the same distinct clothing as before but this time with hoods pulled over their heads and gloves on.
They allegedly forced their way inside the house by smashing open the rear door, prompting the female occupant and two children to flee to a bedroom to hide.
A male occupant confronted the two burglars armed with a cricket bat, however Shareef’s co-accused allegedly pointed the gun at the man and said “don’t make me put a round in you”.
The man then retreated to another bedroom.
The thieves allegedly grabbed the jewellery and a mobile phone before fleeing.
Shareef was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning. His co-accused was arrested last month.
Shareef did not apply for bail in court on Wednesday and it was formally refused.
The matter will return to court in September.
