If you combine Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” with Cole Porter’s music and lyrics you are left with Kiss Me, Kate.
Simon Grace has taken the director’s chair for the second year running and says the show is set to be huge.
"After the incredible success of Godspell, I am excited to bring one of my favourite shows to Milton Follies,” Simon said.
“I have a brilliant cast. They are a fantastic mix of experienced performers and fresh talent,” he said.
This play-within-a-play follows Fred Graham played by Lloyd McDonald, a director, producer and fading star, who has cast his fiery ex-wife Lilli Vanessi, played by Elissa Skinner, as his leading lady.
Romance and conflict ensue as the estranged lovers attempt to revive their flagging careers.
An ambitious starlet Lois Lane, played by Carla West, throws everything into disarray.
Inveterate gambler Bill Calhoun played by Gavin Dorell and some inept debt collecting gangsters turn the production into a high energy romp full of song, dance and Shakespearean romance.
Musical numbers include the hit numbers Too Darn Hot, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, I Hate Men and Another Op’nin, Another Show.
“The energy levels at rehearsals are through the roof,” said Simon Grace.
“Combined with the commitment and dedication of the cast and crew, I am promising you a show not to be missed,” he said.
