Beachside Veteran golfers have had a busy week. On Tuesday, November 20, they hosted the annual Mixed 9 Hole Ambrose, while Wednesday 21st was the men’s 2 Person Ambrose, with the Annual Luncheon and Trophy presentation following the morning’s play.
Fifty four players took part in Tuesday’s golf, with Tanzi Lea and Kathleen Bowler winning the day scoring 28 3/8; runners-up were Gary Logan and Catherine Land scoring 29 1/8; while John Payne and Jennifer Bellingham were third with 30 1/8. Next best scores were Andrew and Margaret Durkin with 30 5/8; Jim Willis and Carole Willebrand 31; and Cliff Workman and Liz Taylor 31 1/8. Nearest The Pin winners for the ladies were Sue Butson on the 2nd; Judy Levett on the 6th; and Rhonda Waller on the 7th. NTP winners for the men were; Cliff Workman on the 2nd; Roy Bender on the 6th; and Ray Werner on the 7th .
Thank you to Mollymook Cellars for the vouchers that were presented to the first prize winners. Special thanks to Danny for doing a great job of organising the day; and thank you to the ladies for the delicious cakes and slices. This event will be held again in 2019 on Tuesday, October 2, when it will be hosted by the Ladies.
Then on Wednesday, November 21, forty-four Beachside Veteran golfers played a 2 Man Ambrose. Winning the day’s play was Gary King and Noel Boyes with a score of 27 3/4, with second place going to Chris Hole and Neil Best scoring 29. Balls were given out for scores to 32 3/8, with Wildcards going Bob Tripp and Simon Richmond. Nearest the Pins were awarded to Jim Smith on the 2nd; Kevin Hodge on the 6th, and Peter Geach on the 7th.
Following the day’s play, members and their partners enjoyed a wonderful luncheon followed by the Annual Trophy Presentation. 2018 Trophy winners were:
Captain’s Trophy won by John Payne scoring 44 points from runner-up Bill Brown 43 points;
Don Porter Memorial Trophy won by David Allaway with 40 points in a count-back from Ken Venables;
Owen Gannon Trophy was won by Mark Hardwick with 40 points from runner-up Bob Tripp 36 points;
Alan May Holden Trophy was won by Ron Sweaney with 41 points from runner-up Bill Brown 40 points;
Medal of Medals winner was Ken Whitney with 43 net 27, while Bernie Sands was runner-up with 45 net 30;
Phillips Smash Repairs Trophy was won by David Allaway with +7, with runner-up going to Garry King +6;
Beachside Championship Winner was Danny Fleming scoring 80, with runner-up going to Bill Brown 85; and third place going to Neil Best 88;
Beachside Handicap Winner was Bill Brown 59 net, from runner-up Graham Wicks 62 net;
2018 Overall Winner was Bill Brown scoring 59 points while Mark Hardwick was runner-up with 54 points.
Mollymook Hilltop
Looking back at another week of golf at Mollymook Hilltop Golf Club, the course conditions are excellent. On Sunday 18th and Monday 19th we hosted the Mollymook Senior Open Championship with the overall Gross Winner being Greame Beasley on a total of 10 over Par and Frank Lampe won the overall Nett with a score of 1 under Par. Donna Molloy won the A Grade with 35 points whilst Bronwen Walton won the B Grade with 38 points during the Tuesday Ladies Stableford event.
On Wednesday Don Hinks & Alan Taylor partnered up to win the Vets Better Ball event with 47 Points.
On Thursday Ray Sanders walk away a winner with 39 points in the Men’s category and Judi Schnoor winning the Ladies’ category on 34 points.
A great turn out for a good cause saw the Cluggo’s Charity event with a full house despite the gale force wind conditions on Friday.
The 36 holes Foursomes Championship got played on Saturday with Rodney Tucker and Jye Halls walking away the victors. Chevy Russel won the 18 hole Stableford event with a fine score of 41 points.
On Sunday Elson Benjamin won the Men’s A Grade with 40 points and Damian Goggin won B Grade with 41 points. Dianne Maguire made 34 points to win the Ladies A Grade whilst Carolyn Mulvey won B Grade with 37 points.
