Ecology Australia and WIRES volunteers, with the assistance of BGC contraction, saved 10 eggs from nests under the bridge. 

The nests were found during standard checking procedures for wildlife prior to removal work commencing. 

“They were checking for microbats when they found the eggs,” WIRES volunteer Marian Pearce said. 

“Thank goodness there weren't any.”

Ecology Australia carefully removed the nests and placed them into heated eskys before they were transported back to the dock. 

The eggs are now in the care of WIRES volunteers, Marian Pearce and Olympia Hendry, from Ulladulla and Surf Beach who will attempt to hatch and raise the birds. 

“They'll be going into an incubator,” Marian said. 

“My incubator isn't an automatic turner so they need to be turned, several times an hour during daylight hours and when they hatch they have to be fed every 25-30 minutes during daylight hours for four weeks.

“They will then have to be fed on special food to mimic what they would eat in the wild.

“We don't know what the survival rate will be like, hopefully we'll have success.

“We will do everything we possibly can.”
