Tibby the tabby was missing for seven days when she was spied more than 10 metres up a Eucalyptus tree.
Nicky Hemsworth had been posting flyers of her missing cat online for days and made a breakthrough in the case on Tuesday night.
“Someone tagged me in a post on Facebook from a lady who found a cat in a massive tree,” she said.
“We went around there and she said the cat had just been crying and crying.
“As soon as we pulled up I just started yelling out ‘Tibby, Tibby’ and she stopped.
“We shone our torches up and couldn’t see too well, but I thought it was her.”
Arborist Jesse Chinnock was alerted to the cat-astrophe after being tagged in a number of posts on social media.
Mr Chinnock refused to accept payment for his paw-some efforts and said he was “just stoked” to see the family reunited.
“I came to work this morning and my beautiful wife rang me up and said we’d been tagged in quite a few posts to say there was a cat up a tree,” Mr Chinnock said.
“The lady who owned the cat called me pretty distressed so I thought I should get there and see what we can do.”
Hoping he’d be able to rescue the stricken feline, Mr Chinnock packed his climbing gear and jumped in the car.
“When I pulled up I thought, ‘wow that cat has got pretty high up’,” he said.
“The tree was probably 25 metres tall and the cat was roughly 10 metres up.
“It was more than a kilometre from home and they think it had been up there for four days.”
Mr Chinnock climbed the tree and was able to purr-suade Tibby down.
“Tibby was pretty good, I’ve gotta be fair about that,” he said.
“The cat just kind of sat there, I talked to it and said I was going to bring it down.
“I think it had been up there for quite a while so it was just happy it had some human contact.
“I got a couple of scratches and once I got about two metres off the ground it jumped off my shoulder and by that stage the claws had made me bleed so I thought, ‘yeah, you can go’.”
Mr Chinnock refused to accept payment for his paw-some efforts and said he was “just stoked” to see the family reunited.
“It was great. Pets always become a part of the family so it’s nice for them to have the cat back,” he said.
“I didn’t expect him to do it for nothing, I mean what a great guy,” Ms Hemsworth said.
“When Jesse got her down, Tibby came straight to me, came home and has eaten three lots of food, drunk lots of water and has been sleeping on and off all afternoon.
“It’s really good.”
