The 2016 Milton Voice winner and Times, Lions Music Scholarship winner Brea Holland, joined Milton Public School students Nazar ElTobgy, Sienna and Grace Condie and Ulladulla High School student Rocco Forrester-Sach for the touring production.
The young performers wowed audiences at their first week of shows at The Concourse Theatre in Chatswood last week.
With two days of rehearsals, followed by two shows per day for three days, the kids said they definitely got a feel for how hard the professional performers work.
Grace, aged nine, is the youngest performer in the show and was a hit playing the Baby Sour Kangaroo with a big voice and an even bigger attitude in the Dr Seuss show.
Her sister Sienna’s vocals feature as a singing Who, while Nazar has shown he’s got what it takes to sing and dance with Sydney’s hottest young talent as a cheeky Wickersham Brother.
Rocco’s quick changes have kept him on his toes as he plays the crazy General Schmit, the ever-popular Grinch as well as Tweet McFirth and a Wickersham.
Brea, who secured a scholarship in Sydney earlier this year, is spectacular as Getrude McFuzz after also playing the part in the Milton Follies’ junior version of the show in 2015.
The full Broadway production features Sydney’s best young performers and a live orchestra, with shows also planned for the Glen Street Theatre in August and the Roslyn Packer Theatre in September.
LOUD Theatre Company principal and show director Sophia Holland said the group provided an opportunity for school-aged performers to get a taste of real, live musical theatre on the big stage.
“Our touring group bridges the gap between school performance and professional musical theatre,” she said.
“There are lots of touring vocal ensembles and dance troupes out there, but this is the first touring combined schools musical theatre company in Sydney.
“The initiative provides our performing arts students a chance to experience the industry and do what they love. As well as the public shows, we are working closely with schools and will play to more than 500 students.”
