Combining works on paper, paintings and sculpture Shadow Dogs is a “visual treat” celebrating the importance of man’s best friend.
“Woven into the fabric of Aboriginal life, law and culture, dogs play an important part of remote community life - the heart of our country,” Ms Jacobs said.
“While working alongside the indigenous artists at the Warlukurlangu Art Centre it became apparent just how important dogs are in community life for a variety of reasons.
"Companionship, physical protector, spiritual protector, hunter and the all important source of warmth.
“Two, three and four dog nights are still relevant when the temperature drops in the desert.”
Ms Jacobs said her artistic practice is driven by her experiences of spending time in the remote communities of Australia’s Northern Territory.
“Since 2014 I have had the fortunate opportunity to divide time between my South Coast studio situated in Milton/Mollymook, where I have worked and resided for the past 27 years and Yuendumu and Nyrippi in the Northern Territory,” she said.
“Dogs may be the focus of this exhibition, though the paintings reflect the landscape and the rich cultural experience always greatly influences the way I work and identify with country.”
Shadow Dogs by Meagan Jacobs will open publicly on Wednesday, September 27 at Megan Jacobs Art Studio at 1 Thomas Street, Milton from 6.30-8pm.
