The mystery begun on Tuesday afternoon (February 21) when the Petersons found a letter in their postbox which was not intended for them.
The letter appears to contain a thank you card and the Petersons have appealed to the community to see if someone can interpret the card in the hope they can send it onto the owners.
“The postie delivered the letter to us on February 21,” Chris Peterson said.
“It was post marked February 14 from the ‘SWLF’ which is, I believe, to be Sydney’s west.
“We then scoured the phone book looking at all the possibilities and the street directory. Then we tried google maps and again nothing.”
The family then tried variations of the address and postcode, believing the nine may be a one.
“The one of the envelope looks like it’s in different hand writing and the nine is different,” Chris said.
“There is no postcode of 2531 in Australia.
“We now know there is a Mollo Street in the postcode of 2531 in South Africa.
“The only similarity to us is the number 12, the NSW and the postcode.”
The Petersons then posted images of the letter on social media in the hope someone would be able to assist.
Suggestions were made the text looked as though it was written in Bulgarian, so the family have sent a copy of the card to the Bulgarian Embassy in the hope they can assist.
