The annual COA charity golf day will be held on Friday, March 17 with players hoping to harness the luck of the Irish.
With a $100,000 target for the year the COA hope this event will play a major role in securing the much needed funds.
“We need money and ongoing money for the cancer unit and the palliative care and that’s ongoing and forever,” COA fundraising coordinator Julie Sinclair said.
“The government built the building, but the community need to maintain it.
“I’m a cancer survivor and that's why I got involved.
“I had my chemo down here and I know it sounds funny, but some of the sessions were enjoyable because they were so personal.
“I've had friends have it in Sydney and saw different doctors and nurses each time. Down here they are the same and it becomes one big family.
“If you had to drive to Sydney or Wollongong every time it would be unbearable.”
“If there's a bed broken, a TV goes down, blood pressure machine, we need to pay for it,” COA president Peter Still said.
The day will include a four-person ambrose competition and will take place at Mollymook Hilltop golf course.
There will be a BBQ held before the 11am shotgun state, along with fun and prizes throughout the day.
A car will be on offer for a hole in one and other prizes for the straightest drive and nearest the pin.
“Cancer has hit so many of us in the community,” Gary Cox said.
“We are a long way from the city and as a country town we need to look after ourselves.
“Our business had lost two sales people to cancer which has really affected us.
“It's a chance to have a fun day but also help the community.”
Organisers invite teams of friends, workmates or solo players to take part in the event.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available for holes.
Players should book golf carts directly with the Hilltop Golf Shop. A maximum of 38 carts is available.
