“I just want them to hurry up,” Dee Kemp says as she potters around her empty shop. “They have been working on that roundabout for months now and it’s still not done.”

Ms Kemp is referring to the construction of the roundabout at the intersection of South and Jubilee Streets in Ulladulla.
Work on the project started in late February and was due for completion in mid-May, however bad weather has forced the build to carry on until sometime in June.
Construction has closed parts of South Street to traffic, including the roadway leading directly to Ms Kemp’s store, Dee’s Funk N Junk.
“My sales are probably down 80 per cent on this time last year,” she said.
“I want to know why weren't we consulted and asked when our least busiest times were so they could build it then? All we got was a letter telling us what was happening.”
I think the businesses that have been affected should be compensated.

Ms Kemp wants council to “speed up” the construction works and has requested night works to “get it moving”.
“My suggestion to council is; you can do night roadwork and get things done quickly in other places, so why not here?” she said.
A spokesperson for the council’s Assets and Works Division said night works are not possible as the construction zone is in a residential area, however approval has been granted for the contractor to work Saturday mornings and extended hours where possible.
As a “goodwill” gesture, Shoalhaven City Council has paid for and installed “Deetour” signs, redirecting customers through the streets to Ms Kemp’s shop.
However, Ms Kemp said the signs were only installed once she threatened to take legal action on the council for loss of earnings.
“If it wasn’t for the project manager Mr Barry I probably would have taken legal action,” she said.
Council said Ms Kemp’s signs were the only ones they provided and were done so “to assist the immediately adjacent business.”
“Businesses with access from the carpark were assisted by a sign erected at Princes Highway stating ‘carpark access via Burrill St South follow detour’,” they said.
