Collectively the group feel they have been asking the question… “are we there yet?” forever.
So, it is with great pride and joy the group announce the Murramarang Men’s Shed (MMS) is at stage four completion of construction and reached lock-up stage on March 21.
The organisation began as a concept in August 2012 and the membership have persisted in fundraising, acquiring land and planning their dream while giving back to their community by building community paths, with funding support from Shoalhaven City Council.
“It has been a long process,” president Col Mason said.
“The men have stuck together throughout, supporting the goal and the dream of a shed for our village.”
The building of the shed is a major milestone which allows the community to see an aspirational project fueled by barbeques, fundraisers, raffles, and endless hours of grant writing become a reality and a new community asset.
Morale is high as the men now stand by their shed now taking in the reality of an 18 metre by 18 metre shed standing tall and proud on the site.
However, the 30 happy members have not fully completed their goal, as the final stage five requires power and water connection for the shed fully operational and compliant for occupation.
The project started on a very bushy 1ha block of coastal land provided by Shoalhaven City Council on lease back in 2015.
The long road to success involved DA applications, surveys, architect drawings, building plans, grant submission, and of course the hands on work of clearing and fencing and physically picking up thousands of sticks.
More than 40 native trees have also been planted and there are plans afoot to establish bee hives, fruit trees and a beautiful native garden on the grounds.
A stage four milestone celebration will be held in May 2017.
Completion of the project and its official opening is due in mid 2017.
