This is why Fishermans Paradise has taken hold of the Share the Dignity Campaign collection in Milton-Ulladulla.
She is encouraging people to donate sanitary items, including pads, tampons and incontinence pads, throughout the month of August to help women and girls in need.
“We had a really good response with pads being donated in April but we really need more teen-appropriate sanitary items and tampons,” Ms Buchanan said.
“We also need incontinence wear because a large number of women over 50 experience homelessness in the Shoalhaven.”
Ms Buchanan said basic sanitary items were “vital to women”.
“They are vital for women to maintain their dignity, especially when they are experiencing homelessness, or running from domestic violence,” she said.
“Having sanitary items should not be a luxury, it is a necessity.”
You can drop items off at Milton Ulladulla Times on Wason Street, Ulladulla; Sol Sisters Artisan Collective in Bellbrook Arcade, Ulladulla; Capital Chemist in the Woolworths Complex, Elders Insurance on Boree Street, Ulladulla; The Milton Pharmacy on the Princes Highway; Mollymook Pharmacy on Tallwood Avenue; or The Fig Tree Forrest, Princes Highway, Milton.
The campaign runs for the entire month of August.
With the support of the Australian public their team of more than 1,000 volunteers across 200 Australian locations have successfully collected over 450,000 packets of pads and tampons in an 18 month period.
The ongoing nature of a woman’s period means that each year this supply is exhausted.
The charity relies on donations during their April and August #dignitydrives to continue the supply of products to homeless women.
