A sellout crowd packed the Arcadia Cinema, Ulladulla on Friday night for Reel Escape film festival’s red carpet gala screening event as part of Escape ARtfest.

The audience enjoyed drinks and nibbles prior to screening of the 10 finalists, with excitement and anticipation was felt in the foyer.
“The 10 finalist films covered all four categories of open youth, Shoalhaven youth, open and themed,” organised Marion Hatwell said.
“Winners were announced at the end of the night by actress and judge Kendra Appleton along with Evan Hughes, director and writer of last year’s themed category winning film "Balloon Ride".
“Evan spoke about the continued success of Balloon Ride both nationally and internationally.
“All 10 films were received extremely well by the audience and provided much topic of conversation at the conclusion of the evening.”
Reel Escape film festival 2017 winners
- Youth: "iRony" written and directed by Radheya Jegatheva.
- Shoalhaven Youth: "Who Let the Dogs Out" written and directed by Scarlett Wakelin and Ambrosia Hayes from Nowra Anglican College.
- Open: "Out of My Mind" written and directed by William Anugerah.
- Themed: "Journey" written and directed by Radheya Jegatheva.
- Peoples Choice: "The Crossing" written by Frank McLeod and Geoff Smith, directed by Frank McLeod of Milton Ulladulla Videography Club.
Reel Escape received three times the number of entries than in 2016.
“It is expected to continue to grow in popularity with film makers and audience participation next year,” Ms Hatwell said.
