CHASERS, stands for Community Health and Sporting EndeavouRS, began in 2011 after women throughout Manyana was frustrated at the lack of sporting opportunities available for females.
The group has grown from strength to strength, and is much more than a just a group of old ladies said co-organiser Joyce Hitchen.
“The response to the group when it first began in 2011 was absolutely overwhelming,” she said.
“There was 38 women of all ages at the sportsground, enjoying cricket.
“It has grown to be much more than a sporting group, but a group which has united the women of Manyana.
The ladies, aged from 46 to 72, has created a sense of community in the region which had never existed previously said Ms Hitchen.
“There were women which lived in the region for 11 years and didn’t know anybody,” she said.
The ladies meet on the last Sunday of each month, with ladies of mixed sporting ability helping each other learn new skills.
