Eva Gautier, Amelie Gautier, Marko Radosavljevic, Nikolas Radosavljevic, Eva McDonald, Loui McDonald, Michael Haughey, Molly Haughey, Lance Curtis, Riley Nolan, Luke Nolan and Blake Nolan have been travelling and competing for our club in ACT, NSW and the last tournament in VIC.
The results have been amazing and the support for the members and their families from Mrs Jill Morris we are truly thankful and it is greatly appreciated.
In the NSW competition at the Illawarra International judo club Eva M, Eva G, Amelie and Michael won silver medals, Loui, Lance, Molly and Luke won their divisions bringing home the gold medals.
This tournament was also a grading for Blake for his state referees certificate.
Our members enjoy competing and attending the tournaments held in Wollongong as it is close to home and it is always a fun day. We hope that the next one we will have more members attend.
In ACT at the Hills Academy of sport Eva G, Nikolas and Michael all received the bronze medal, Amelie and Marko the silver and Lance, Luke and Blake all the gold medals.
The members all competed on an extremely cold wintery day (we were all sure we would see snow).
But it was a great competition where many of our members used it for a warm up and preparation for the Victorian Open and practiced techniques on their opponents that helped in the Victorian Open.
Molly, Michael and Lance fought exceptionally well but were unfortunate not medal.
Thank you Jill for sponsoring these members, our coach and their families for this competition.
This was an extremely hard competition for our club, and the first big competition that saw Luke and Michael not in each other’s division as Michael went up a weight and competed in the bottom of his weight category, Michael will continue to grow and he will be a competitor to watch out for.
Molly, although she did not win a medal, contested her division and put up great techniques, strength and determination, her bouts were extremely exciting and could of gone either way.
Lance came up against much older and stronger competitors but he showed that although strength is a determining factor in winning medals with some opponents, techniques are a vital part in judo which is an advantage for later on and Lance proved that he was a better judoka on the day.
Luke competed brilliantly in his division and went in to the competition fit and knowing exactly what he wanted to achieve and he did this.
Blake fought in both his cadet division taking out the gold, but when he came up against the Oceania and National Champion in the young men's division we knew that Blake would give it all he had.
We were all so excited when he won and in doing so won his second gold medal.
This term has also seen 11 members sit for their Judo Federation of Australia (JFA) grading certificates.
Ray Nolan graded to Senior Green, Luke Nolan graded to Blue/Brown, Michael Haughey graded to Blue, Molly Haughey graded to Blue, Lance Curtis graded to Orange/Green Black Tip, Pia Hollywood graded to Orange Black Tip, Jet Boone graded to Yellow/Orange Black Tip, Rose Hollywood graded to White/Yellow Black Tip, Tynan Linden graded to White/Yellow, Blaed Leslight graded to White/Yellow and Henderson Leslight graded to White/Yellow.
Congratulations and well done to all our members and another big thank you to Jill.
