The Cancer Outpatients Appeal has a new president in the chair, Peter Still.
Peter has taken the reigns from outgoing president, Chris James.
Chris has been the president for the past 18 months but his association and hard work for the appeal began when we originally started the planning for the Cancer Services Centre at Milton Hospital.
The new president praised the efforts of Chris at the meeting.
Chris has also been an integral part of the planning and construction of the new palliative care unit to be built at the back of the existing main hospital.
To us, as a group of volunteers, the notification that the plans have been signed by NSW Health and have been put out to tender is a fabulous achievement.
The new unit will cost more than 4.5 million dollars to construct and is expected to be under construction early this year.
It will include a new palliative care unit and and a renal unit with the capacity for six dialysis chairs, allowing people to receive dialysis closer to home rather than travelling to Nowra.
The COA would like to thank the community for assisting them in raising the funds to not only build this unit but to continue to provide the best facilities and service possible to all those patients who receive cancer services.
The committee look forward to continuing fundraising activities in 2016.
